2011 New York Marathon

The New York marathon is the biggest marathon in the world (based on number of finishers) and is regarded as one of the most prestigious marathons to win, and for everyone else is an amazing experience as the course travels through the five boroughs of New York. Apparently there are literally hundreds of bands along the course, not to mention hundreds-of-thousands of spectators leading to the finish in Central Park.

Over the past few months I’ve been encouraging several runners in our group to chase a time that would earn them a guaranteed entry into the NY marathon, either in a half or full marathon, to make up a group of people to travel over and participate in this event – it would a fantastic trip. The cut-off for recording a guaranteed entry time is 31st January.

As that date approaches we do indeed have a group of people who have achieved the required time, plus a couple of runners from outside our group who may join us for some training and the race. While not everyone has confirmed they plan to run in NY marathon, here’s the people who have qualified:

Danni Bryan
Kylie Griffiths
Jim Christensen
Campbell Maffett

Since we can now place our entry, I’ll be in touch to confirm who’s going and start to make some travel plans – I’ve got a couple of suggestions for accommodation.

BTW…the NY marathon is on Sunday 6th November.
