Aquathon World Championships

Budapest, Hungary
Ben made it safely to Budapest, and found his way to the start line for his first race of the World Championships. The original race format was Run-2.5km / Swim-1km / Run-2.5km, however cold water temps (14c) meant that wet-suits were mandatory and the first run was cancelled meaning a race of Swim-1km / Run-2.5km.

The race was on about 9pm Melb time, and Ben’s age-group (25-29) was combined with 3 other age-groups in the same wave. His SMS race report says “Took me 600m to get going in the swim…no surprise after the travel. Felt I ran strongly. I was up in top-15 (ed. in whole wave) after swim and was 10th by the end.”

It turns out he came 5th in his age-group (see results below). History (and my own experience!!) is that European races are the most competitive in the world, so this is a strong result and hopefully bodes well for the Sprint Distance Triathlon Ch’ships on Saturday.
